Vampires in Bloodlight are not supernatural beings, but genetically engineered post-humans, designed to surpass human limits.They are not immortal, but they age extremely slowly, with lifespans reaching over a thousand years under ideal conditions.

  • Blood as Fuel: Vampires metabolize blood to power their enhanced physiology. The rarer the blood type, the stronger the effect. Without regular intake, they weaken, desiccate, and eventually enter a permanent vegetative state known as Red Sleep.

  • Physical Traits: Heightened strength, speed, sensory perception, and regenerative capabilities. Most possess low-level telekinetic or neuro-empathic abilities, depending on their lineage.

  • Reproduction: Trueborn vampires are rare and highly valued. Fertility is limited, especially among elite bloodlines, making childbirth a political and biological event.

  • Vulnerabilities: They are resistant but not invulnerable. Silver causes cellular rejection and neurodegeneration. Extreme sunlight exposure accelerates cell damage unless mitigated by blood-tech implants.

Humanity hasn’t gone extinct—they’ve been repurposed.Categorized by blood type, branded with roles, and reshaped by bio-market demand, humans exist under strict vampiric control. Their worth is measured not by character, but by chemical composition.

  • Rubies (Type A): Sterile and standardized, these are the workhorses of the blood economy. Farmed en masse on numbered complexes, their blood fuels the lower houses and military rations. They live, work, and die by barcode.

  • Ambers (Type B): The lowest caste. Ghetto-born, overworked, and undernourished. They serve as manual labor, janitors, transporters. Disposable but necessary.

  • Amethysts (Type AB): The rarest and most prized. Raised in hidden facilities as luxury companions, high-table delicacies, or aesthetic trophies. Their lives are curated performances of perfection. The Jieng Syndicate (China) monopolizes their trade, holding invitation-only auctions where they’re treated as living masterpieces.

The Resistance
